FAQ & Contact
Do you have a retail store?
Tea & Treadle operates from a private studio in Oshawa, Ontario (just east of Toronto). We do not have a retail store at this time, but we can be found at selected anime conventions in southern Ontario throughout the year in the Black Rattle Designs Shop. We hope to launch a pop-up shop in Toronto at some point in 2017 - join our newsletter and visit our events page to keep informed!
How can I purchase items?
You can purchase through our Etsy store (we do accept Etsy gift cards and PayPal), or by emailing us your order. At our shows we accept Square payments (credit cards) and cash. All prices are listed in Canadian dollars (CAD).
What are the shipping rates to Canada and the USA?
We use flat rate shipping fees according to the total cost of your order for purchases in Canada and the continental USA (see rates below). Actual shipping rates are generally higher than what we charge, so we can not discount them further. Orders over $150 (in Canada) or ($200 in the USA) are eligible for free shipping to one address!
Do you ship outside of Canada and the USA?
Yes! We would be happy to process your purchase outside of Canada and the continental USA. In order to do this, you MUST contact us by email (or on Etsy) so that shipping and various international regulations can be adjusted (you can not place your order directly online). You will be sent an invoice through e-mail that must be paid by PayPal.
Who pays taxes, border fees and customs?
The appropriate amount of GST or HST will be automatically charged on purchases within Canada. All packages sent outside of Canada are subject to additional customs/border fees that you are responsible for paying. We can not estimate the amount of these fees nor the time it will take to process your package at the border. For shipments traveling to the USA, our packing lists will clearly state "Made in Canada" which should reduce or even eliminate duty fees due to the NAFTA agreement - but this can not be guaranteed.
Do you accept returns?
Sewing patterns, paper products and intimate items (bodysuits, bloomers, & undergarments) are not returnable. Custom orders, orders with requested alterations, and any items labeled "final sale" are also nonreturnable. We will gladly accept exchanges for incorrect sizing on all other items. The buyer will be responsible for shipping the item back to us within 7 days in new, unused condition. Please contact us for approval before returning anything to the office.
Do you take commissions?
The short answer is yes! We do accept commissions during certain times of the year depending on how busy we are in the studio. The best thing to do is to make your request as early as possible (email us or use the form below). Please keep in mind that we are professional dressmakers, so your request should be remotely related to the kind of items that we already sell (we can also do advanced projects such as wedding dresses and winterized coats). We do not do armor, metal or other non-fabric projects.
Wait, haven't I seen your clothing before?
Maybe! We used to sell all of our products under the Black Rattle Designs label, but as we've evolved, so has our brand! Tea & Treadle is now dedicated to our sewing patterns, Lolita inspired clothing and accessories. Black Rattle Designs is still operating, but it is currently geared more towards Gothic Lolita, themed collections and cosplay commissions.
